Job Description:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Accountant is responsible for supporting the Senior Controller and Vice President in ensuring the smooth operation of the Finance Department by performing a variety of accounting duties. This includes performing daily cash management, preparing reconciliations to ensure applications balance to the general ledger, assisting in accounts payable, the filing of all necessary accounting reports, and other duties associated with the Bank’s Finance Department.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Prepare and complete the financial information that satisfies all regulatory reporting requirements for the Bank.
  • Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports to management as well as regulatory reporting agencies.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles by processing GL entries, analyzing financial statements, performing reconciliations, and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Performs daily cash management activities, which includes the wire transfer process, and correspondent bank settlement.
  • Prepares reconciliations for internal and external accounts to ensure accuracy and proper documentation of transactions.
  • Promptly resolve any exceptions or unposted items to GL, notifying appropriate department or branch personnel as needed.
  • Assists accounts payable processes, keys in appropriate entries, validates data, and prepares checks.
  • Various clerical duties, such as preparing forecasts, expense control, records, files, scans, updates information or reports as required.
  • Respond to range of inquiries regarding financial transactions, researching, and resolving problems.
  • Work with the Vice President, and Controller on the design and implementation of new accounting systems and reports.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or four or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work-related experience should consist of an in-depth background in accounting. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school, or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the financial industry.
  • Intermediate knowledge of general accounting, budgeting, and related accounting and record keeping systems in a financial institution.
  • Intermediate knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and bank accounting policies and procedures.
  • Intermediate skills related to the consolidation and reporting of bank financial results, and formulation and implementation of bank accounting procedures.
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; and word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Advanced math skills; calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio, and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Advanced oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to understand instructions and instruct others if needed, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage, if required to drive while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
